HOPE IS A WAKING DREAM

We - all people around the world - are experiencing difficult times due to coronavirus pandemic. As HAYEF ELT Department juniors, we made a video in the hope of making our solidarity stronger. These difficult times remind us how strong we are! "Hope is a waking dream."  - Aristotle Many thanks to Barış ÅžEN, Engin ORHAN, Kaan KURAL, Furkan DEMÄ°RBAÅž. AN IDIOSYNCRATIC MACHINIMA PROJECT

Hello everyone! This is my and my dear colleagues' machinima project,  Manners Maketh Man. It is possible to use this project in certain phases of an acitivity or a task, and it can be a model to show how to persuade someone, or it can be used to show uses of some modal verbs. However, these options can be varied. Having been i nspired by Shakespeare's King Lear, we created the plot and used the game "Sims" to make our machinima. Henry, the father of wealthy and deep-rooted Burnham family, has been tired and gotten older enough, so he wants to leave his place at their family company. He considers leaving all his wealth to his two daughters, Charlotte and Bridgette, and then he'll live rest of his life in serenity. However, unpleasant things will happen and everyone will be shocked at the end. You can watch it through:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmKLaZYupqA #efl #esl #elt #english #teaching #learningenglish #drama #machinima #sims

SOME TIPS ON PADLET

Hello everyone! Currently, about 1.5 billion people speak English - nearly 360 million people speak Englis h as a native language - and many people around the world try to learn English; therefore, we can say that English is the most commonly studied foreign language in the world. For this reason,  there are many ways to learn it, which confuse learners a lot. In my Padlet I try to guide people who are learning English. The link is at the very end. But, what is Padlet? It is a platform in which one can easily create and collaborate. Padlet allows everyone to create content as they want, and this content can be about anything. One creates their padlet about something – such as learning English, lesson notes of a final exam, etc . –, and others can edit or add more information. Visuals, videos, audios, and even other padlets can be added on padlets, also, there are some colour options. Padlet can be really useful in language learning if it is used properly. To

OUR STUDY ON PERCEPTION OF STUDENTS TOWARDS STORYTELLING IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING

Hello everyone! How's it going? Here's my and my dearest colleagues ', Barış and Engin , study about perception of students towards storytelling in English language classes. Our approach in this study is descriptive. First, we had examine d many studies about the aforementioned subject, then we did some experimental lessons to get to know students' perception towards storytelling. THE BARD ON THINGLINK

Hello there! I’ve created a media on thinglink . It’s about William Shakespeare. William Shakespeare was a British playwright and poet who is famous for his plays and sonnets. His works excite people even today; however, there is little information about his private life. By t hinglink   I've created an interactive image about W. Shakespeare. You can learn many things about him by clicking the hotspots on the image.  Check :  https://www.thinglink.com/scene/1188449178930380801 What is thinglink ? t hing li nk   is a free and user friendly digital tool that provides users with the ability to turn any image into an interactive graphic. Create multiple “hotspots” on specific parts of an image and turn that image into a multimedia launcher.  Include video, record audio or provide a link to any website with the click of a button. Easily embed an interactive t hing l ink graphic into any blog or website. ThingLink is a truly amazing tool that allows users to pack a l

ABOUT GAMIFICATION AND GBL (GAME-BASED LEARNING)

I f we give prizes, rankings etc , and create meaningful, exciting contexts, learners will be highly motivated. All these can be provided by games; moreover, by using games, collaborative learning can be facilitated. From  https://www.bunchball.com/gamification  there is a good definition for gamification . " Gamification is the process of taking something that already exists – a website, an enterprise application, an online community – and integrating  game mechanics  into it to motivate participation, engagement, and loyalty." And there is another term that confuses people a lot.  It's Game-Based Learning. " While gamification involves applying the rules of a game to a task or lesson, GBL involves using an actual game to teach something." ( https://www.fluentu.com/blog/language-learning-gamification/ ) GBL and gamification can enhance language learning, in contrast to the widely accepted belief that says games affect learning process badly. ABOUT VR (VIRTUAL REALITY)

Hello everyone. In this post I'm going to write about VR, a technology that brings you into different worlds at anytime . Firstly, wha t is VR ? " Virtual Reality (VR) is the use of computer technology to create a simulated environment. Unlike traditional user interfaces, VR places the user inside an experience. Instead of viewing a screen in front of them, users are immersed and able to interact with 3D worlds. By simulating as many senses as possible, such as vision, hearing, touch, even smell, the computer is transformed into a gatekeeper to this artificial world." (from  https://www.marxentlabs.com/what-is-virtual-reality/ ) People are sometimes confused with the terms VR and AR. To remove this confusion, it can be said that VR makes your environment truly different; your environment turns into a virtual world whereas AR adds some virtuality in your real environment, that is, you are still in a real world ,but there are some virtual addings . MAP YOUR MIND!

Hello everyone, I've created two mind maps on MindMeister . MindMeister is an online mind mapping application that you can use to visualize, and present your thoughts via the cloud.  Teaching language by using mind maps can be very useful for learners, yet you should purchase premium subscriptions to enhance your teaching experience with MindMeister, which is because y ou can create only three maps in free mode, and a lso, you can’t download your map to your device. Th e first map is about the simple present tense. It’s about functions of the tense and some example sentences for every function. https ://mm.tt/1265581368?t=C47gJuwk2b The second is about key elements of the TBL (Task-based Learning). Let’s have a look at Nunan’s definiton on what " task " is before looking the map.   Nunan (1989) explains the task by saying that  "Any classroom work which involves learners in comprehending, manipulat

A SMALL BEGINNING INTO PIXTON

Hello there! I'm here with my Pixton avatar. He is cool, isn't he?  Pixton is an online tool that allows us to create amazing comics. With the help of these comics, students can study on a specific grammar topic , o r they can just see different ways to say " h ello " . Also, they can contribute to comics with their avatars. Pixton has high-quality models, graphics, but there are few free models to use. You need to spend some money to access more models, characters and etc. Check my first try on Pixton:   https://share.pixton.com/pvmxh9i #efl #english #learningenglish #esl #IT #esl

ABOUT AR (AUGMENTED REALITY)

Hello! In this post you see my views on AR. The more students are interested, the more they are motivated, which leads to better learning experience . Therefore, AR should be used in all language classes since it can highly interest students when they try to learn something. It contains much interaction and offers much more reality - as it's understood from the name -  than traditional ways. Students hav e fun wh en AR is used in their classes, which is supported by many teacher/student interviews and studies. I used HP Reveal in my AR tryings . It has relatively large content for young learners, yet it isn't appropriate to use it for adults, so we can say that its content should be improved. Moreover, using HP Reveal is better to teach vocabulary than grammar or other aspects of a language . THE ERASMUS OFFICE IN SECOND LIFE

Hello everyone ! I visited the Erasmus Island in Second Life, and this is my selfie. The i sland  was created by Asst. Prof. Tuncer CAN and others.  The island offers lots of useful information about the Erasmus programme , Istanbul University and Istanbul city. A student who is going to do Erasmus in Istanbul University can visit the island by creating an avatar, which is a very useful thing to do. Named as "Before", "During" and "After", three buildings are situated on the island. An Erasmus student can enter these buildings and check what he/she may or have to do in the school and in Istanbul, or how to do something in the school/city.  Let’s have a look at my views about the game. Second Life is like the game "Sims". Choosing relatively many options, you can customize your avatar. Moreover, you can create your avatar by using 3D graphics. Also, it is possible to chat and talk in the game, so it can be said that it has an inte
